Principal's Message
2025 Year 6 Canberra Trip
It was an absolute privilege to travel to Canberra with 35 of our Year 6 students, Mr Douglass and Mrs Morgan-Melenhorst. Our students were wonderful role models for our school. Thank you to Mr Douglass for sharing snapshots of our adventures through video diaries of each. If you are yet to experience our fun, please follow our Facebook page.
Our students received positive feedback from our accommodation caterers, commenting on our students’ manners. Whilst we can reinforce students using their manners, this is a direct reflection of your expectations as parents and carers, thank you.
Friday of our trip was eventful. After a little hiccup crossing Sydney Harbour Bridge, we did not make it to our planned meeting point on the other side of Circular Quay. It was quite hot and humid, with hot and tired travellers, we made the decision to have a break near the cruise ship terminal before boarding the bus to Sydney airport.
Now, we all know spring/summer weather in Brisbane. After a hot and humid day, we are often greeted by a cooling storm. Sydney is not much different.
Our flight was due to depart at 6.00pm Friday evening (5.00 pm Brisbane). We were patiently waiting near our departure gate when the expected time of departure changed. Firstly to 6.20 pm Sydney time. Then 6.40 pm Sydney time. 7.00 pm Sydney time… At this point we were told that our flight is delayed, and we need to move gates. 35 primary school students and 3 staff members stranded at Sydney airport indefinitely! How will we feed them? What will we feed them?
I was sending SeeSaw updates what felt like every 5 minutes! Students were getting worried about their parents not knowing!
We walk to the new gate and find somewhere to sit. First problem solved. What to do about food… The highlight for our Year 6 students was accompanying Mr Douglass and I to the airport ‘convenience store’ to select whatever was available to eat.
Our students were amazing, having to wait 2.5 hours to finally travel home. Thank you to the families for trusting their children with us for 5 days.
2026 Canberra Trip Expressions of Interests will be sent home with Year 5 students very soon.
2026 Planning
On Monday, the Executive Leadership Team (Business Manager, Head of Department – Curriculum, Head of Special Education Services, Deputy Principals, Principal) will be offsite planning for 2026.
This planning includes our Annual Implementation Plan, budget considerations, staffing and class structures.
Mrs Jacqui Parker, Deputy Principal at Greenbank State School will be acting in my place on Monday. Mrs Danielle Martin will remain as Acting Deputy Principal on Monday, before returning to her Year 4 class on Tuesday.
Mrs Parker and Mrs Martin will be available for any urgent issues and will manage any issues that arise throughout the day on Monday.
Recruitment for Mr James Morley’s position is ongoing. As soon as I am able, I will announce the successful candidate.
Again, if you are leaving us at the end of this year and yet to inform us, please do so as soon as possible.
If you are yet to enrol or know of any family or friends who are yet to enrol their child, particularly for Prep, please encourage them to do sooner rather than later.
Changes to the Working with Children (Blue Card) processes
Changes to who is required to hold a Blue Card to volunteer in schools are now in effect.
From 2026, all volunteers are required to hold a Blue Card. This means, any parent or legal guardian must have a current Blue Card to volunteer in any capacity within the school.
‘To work or volunteer in a child regulated child related employment or business in Queensland, you need a blue or exemption card.’
Further information can be found on the link below.
Please see below on how to apply for a Blue Card. Volunteers will still need to complete volunteer training prior to volunteering in any capacity.
Deputy Principals' Message
World Teacher Day
We are celebrating World Teacher Day on Friday 31st October. At Everleigh State School, we believe that great teachers don’t just teach—they inspire, nurture, and empower. On this World Teachers’ Day, we take a moment to shine a spotlight on the extraordinary educators who make our school a place of curiosity, growth, and belonging.
Every day, our teachers go above and beyond to create engaging learning environments, support the individual needs of every student, and foster a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. Whether it’s through creative lesson plans, patient guidance, or simply offering a listening ear, their impact reaches far beyond the classroom.
We are proud to have a team of passionate, dedicated, and innovative professionals who bring energy and heart to everything they do. From early years to upper primary, our teachers are the backbone of our school community—and today, we say a heartfelt thank you. Happy World Teachers’ Day!
Warm Weather
As the weather heats up, we want to remind all families to help students stay cool and protected during the school day.
Please ensure your child brings:
- A wide-brimmed hat
- A refillable water bottle to stay hydrated
- Sunscreen applied before school if needed
Thank you for working together with us to keep everyone safe and comfortable during these warmer months.
Prep Start Transition Sessions Begin
This week we proudly launched our Prep Start transition sessions, welcoming both new and returning families who have a child enrolling in Prep next year. It’s been a joy to meet our incoming students and their families, share insights about our school’s values and culture, and engage in meaningful conversations about each child’s learning journey.
We’re excited to continue these sessions over the next five Thursdays and look forward to building strong connections with our 2026 Prep families.
If you haven’t yet enrolled your child for Prep, we encourage you to contact Executive Services as soon as possible to secure your place

Student Finance
Statements for student accounts will be emailed next week. Statements are emailed at least once per term and show all outstanding invoices, credit note adjustments and prepayments.
Statements are issued regardless of a debit or credit balance. Please be advised that if your statement shows a credit amount (a negative) DO NOT pay this amount as it will place your account into further credit. Please contact Admin if you authorise the credit to be applied to an invoice.
If you have a current payment plan arranged with the Finance Officer, such as Centrepay, scheduled Direct Debit or private agreement - thank you.
Payments via BPoint and QParents are preferred and eftpos payments are welcome in the office. A reminder that we are a cashless school.
