Principal's Message
Term 3 is upon us! I am sure each year seems to go faster and faster! We have had a settled start to the term, welcoming several new families to our growing community.
Staffing updates
This year we have seen considerable growth in enrolments. This has resulted in our year 1/2 class taught by Mrs Mylett being restructured to create separate Year 1 and Year 2 classes. The addition of a new Year 2 class has meant welcoming a new teacher to our staff. Mrs Jayne Griffin has joined the Year 2 team, teaching the newly created 2F class. Year 2 students from 1/2F moved into their new classroom, along with selected students from our other Year 2 classes, during the last week of Term 2.
Mrs Nicole Phillips who taught 2E on Monday and Tuesday has left to take on new adventures. Miss Shelbie D’Amico, teacher of 1C is now teaching 2E in place of Mrs Phillips. This has resulted in Mrs Tonia Ward, who joined our teaching team in the latter part of Term 2 teaching 1C for the remainder of the year. In addition, Mr James Morley returned to his position of Deputy Principal for Year 3 to Year 6.
We have also welcomed new teacher aides to our staff to support teaching and learning. I am sure our community will extend a warm welcome to our new staff.
Uniform reminder
It is timely at the beginning of a new term, and with many new families, to remind everyone of our uniform expectations at Everleigh State School. Our uniform policy can be found on our school website.
- All students are expected to wear the Everleigh State School polo shirt. In the event a school polo shirt cannot be sourced due supply issues with UMS, a maroon polo shirt is accepted.
- Our sport shirt is only to be worn on Fridays or for cross country or athletics carnivals.
- It is an expectation students wear the Everleigh State School shorts or skorts. Again, if there is a supply shortage, black shorts or skorts may be worn in the interim.
- All state schools in Queensland must abide by a sun safety policy, which states students must wear a broad brimmed hat when out in the sun. Everleigh State School has a no hat, no play school policy. This means students MUST be wearing a school (or other suitable broad brimmed) hat to play, including in covered areas. There is an increasing number of students bringing caps to school. Caps are not a suitable sun safe option. Students wearing caps will be redirected to an undercover area where they must be sitting down. Mrs Martin and Ms Morgan-Melenhorst who lead our student council will be trialling quiet, seated activities in under cover areas for those students without hats.
- Black shoes and white socks form part of our school uniform. When shopping for new/replacement shoes, please ensure you purchase black shoes
- Regardless of gender, students whose length extends beyond their shoulders, are expected to have their hair tied back neatly.
Report cards
Thank you for your patience and understanding with the issue regarding report cards last term. This was a statewide issue for gmail email addresses. I received notification last week that this issue is now resolved and all families with listed email addresses should have received Semester 1 report cards.
This is a timely reminder to ensure you are connected to QParents. All current and previous report cards are easily accessible via this platform. You are also able to report student absences and keep up to date with outstanding invoices.
Information on how to connect to QParents is published in all editions of our newsletters.
Term 3 Parent-Teacher Interviews
On Wednesday 3 September (week 8), Parent-Teacher interviews will again be held in the Hall. A link to book a meeting with your child’s teacher will be shared via SeeSaw in the coming weeks.
Student attendance and absences
While I acknowledge there is quite a number of illnesses at present, it is important to ensure your child is at school, on time for the whole school as often as possible.
If you needing to collect your child early, please do not arrive at the office and expect our staff to have your child at the office with a click of their fingers. It much more helpful to ensure both the classroom teacher and office staff are aware in advance if your child will be leaving early.
We currently have 398 unexplained absences. It is a requirement that all absences are explained. Please ensure you are providing a reason for your child’s absence.
Our attendance rate is currently 90.1%. 39% of our students attend school 95 – 100% of the time. Sadly, we have 35.4% of our students who have an attendance rate of 90% or less, with 20% of students attending less than 85% of the school year to date.
Carpark and Pick up/Drop off Zone procedures
While there has been a significant improvement in your use of our carpark and pick up/drop off zone – THANK YOU! – a friendly reminder is below, particularly for our new families.
I would like to thank all of our families who have provided positive feedback to our staff on their efforts to keep traffic moving and our community safe.
We are currently reviewing the ‘2 Minute’ parking zones to have them changed for specific times.
When exiting Kangaroo carpark, pick up/drop off zones, traffic is able to turn left and access Everleigh Drive by turning left at the Guroman Drive roundabout on Anderson Drive.
Deputy Principals' Message
Welcome Back to Term 3!
We hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break. It’s been wonderful to see our families and students return refreshed, smiling, and ready to dive into their Term 3 learning adventures!
Next week, you’ll receive curriculum overviews for your child’s year level. These overviews provide valuable insights into the key learnings across all subjects and include important dates to help you stay informed and plan ahead. Term 3 is always a busy and exciting time, filled with special events and opportunities for families to be involved. We warmly encourage parents and carers to join us and share in these memorable moments with their children.
As the cooler weather continues, it’s important to support our children’s health and wellbeing. Keeping warm, enjoying nutritious meals, practicing good hygiene (like regular handwashing and covering sneezes), and getting plenty of sleep—ideally 10 to 12 hours each night—can all help build strong immune systems and reduce the risk of winter illnesses. Thank you to all our families for helping ensure children arrive at school on time, ready to start their day at 8:25am. Each morning, teachers guide students through the day’s schedule, expectations, and any changes to routines—setting them up for a smooth and successful day of learning.
A reminder for families of students in Years 2–6: we are a 1:1 iPad school. For those participating in our BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program, please ensure iPads are brought to school each day fully charged. These devices are important tools that enhance learning, and being prepared helps students make the most of their classroom experiences.
At our school, we value the strong partnership between home and school, and open communication plays a key role in supporting your child’s learning journey. Your child’s teacher is your first point of contact for any questions or concerns, as they work closely with your child every day and know their learning needs well.
Please keep in mind that during school hours, teachers are actively engaged in teaching and supporting students, so they may not be able to respond immediately. However, rest assured—they will get back to you as soon as possible at their earliest convenience. We appreciate your understanding and continued support in fostering a positive and collaborative learning environment for all our students.
We’re looking forward to a fantastic term ahead, full of learning, growth and fun.
Messages From The Executive Services
Access for students with mobility impairment
We have a few mobility impaired students who need clear and safe access to get in and out of school. You can assist by being mindful and ensuring your vehicle and/or tow bar does not overhang the pathway. Please also ensure you do not park in the disabled parking spaces. These small things can really make a difference.

Seasonal Asthma
With the cooler change of season, we are seeing more students with seasonal asthma at the office. When we are giving students their relievers at school, we are surprised at how many children with a prescribed preventer have not taken them. If your child’s asthma action plan includes the use of a morning preventer, we recommend you help them by setting up a morning routine that ensures this is given.
Change of contact details
Please advise Executive Services if any of your details have changed. For example:
- Address
- Best contact phone number
- Work details
- Emergency contacts other than parents/carers
Please use the QParents app, or you can pop into the office to complete a change of details form, or email admin@everleighss.eq.edu.au to update your details.
Spare change of clothes reminder
With the colder weather arriving, students are experiencing more toileting accidents. Please ensure you have a spare change of clothes in your child’s bag just in case. Please include underwear, black shorts/skort/pants and socks.
Lost property
Name labels make all the difference in helping us to returned lost items to the correct students. We kindly remind parents to name hats, jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc. We really appreciate your assistance with this. Any lost item that is labelled is returned directly to the classroom.
All previously unclaimed and unnamed school jackets have been given to our guidance officer to distribute to families in need. If you believe you have lost an unnamed jacket, please advise as soon as possible.
All unclaimed, unnamed items are disposed of or donated at the end of each term.

Q Parents - Registration
We remind all parents and carers to set up their Q Parents app. It is a simple way to quickly access and keep on top of all our services, such as:
- Attendance/absences
- Consent forms
- View outstanding invoices
- Pay invoices
- Report cards
- Update contact details
If you require any assistance to set this up, please contact executive services.
Message From The Head Of Department - Curriculum, Ms Tanya Conway
I hope you had a safe and restful holiday break and are feeling refreshed for an exciting Term 3 ahead. It has been wonderful to welcome our students back, ready to learn, grow, and engage in all that school life has to offer. Date Claimers:
NAIDOC Week Celebrations – Week 2
We are thrilled to invite our community to join us for a very special NAIDOC celebration parade on Tuesday 22nd July at 8:45am. This year’s NAIDOC Week theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy, celebrates not only the achievements of the past, but also the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of young First Nations leaders, the vision of their communities, and the enduring legacy of their ancestors.
Everleigh State School is honoured to welcome Miss Stacie Fogarty, Regional Community Education Counsellor and proud Mununjali woman, the First Nations dance troupe from Flagstone State Community College along with Charlene Russo from the Beyond Broncos program. It will be a morning of connection, culture, and celebration, and we warmly invite all families to attend.
Book Week – Week 6
Another highlight this term will be Book Week in Week 6, where we will celebrate the magic of storytelling and the joy of reading. This year’s theme is "Book an Adventure", inviting students to journey through new worlds, ideas, and characters.
Our annual Book Week Parade will take place on Friday 22nd August, and students are invited to dress up as a favourite book character or something that reflects the spirit of adventure. It’s always a colourful and creative day, and we can’t wait to see the amazing costumes and hear about the stories that inspire our students.
