Principal's Message
Where is this year going?! It only feels like yesterday I was welcoming everyone back for the beginning of Term 2.
It has certainly been a very busy Term 2, with many wonderful events. At each of these events, our students have excelled at displaying our CARE values.
Over the last two days of this week, our Year 3 to Year 6 students displayed their personal best at their Athletics Carnival. Such days take an enormous amount of organising. A special thank you to Ms Kimberly Beck and Mr Adam James for their efforts in organising. Thank you also to the staff who assisted in the lead up, morning of, and during the event to ensure it ran smoothly. Age champions and the winning house will be announced at our final whole school parade of the term on Tuesday morning.
Farewell Mr Waugh
It is bittersweet news that I inform you Mr Mark Waugh will be leaving us at the end of this term, as Mr James Morley will be returning to his role as Deputy Principal.
I am sure you all agree that Mr Waugh’s contributions to our school community will be missed. On behalf of the Everleigh State School community, I would like to thank and acknowledge Mr Waugh for the CARE he has shown in his time with us and wish him every success. Our full school parade next Tuesday will allow us to thank and farewell Mr Waugh as a school community.
Mr Morley will return to Everleigh State School on Monday 14 July, the first day of Term 3.
P&C Discos
We had a great night last Friday at the Prep – Year 2 disco. Thank you very much to all of the amazing volunteers who made the night such a success. I have no doubt the Year 3 to Year 6 disco will be just as fun. Thank you again to our volunteers.
I would like to acknowledge our P&C executive and members who go above and beyond for our students. Our P&C is made up of very few members and each member works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure events such as discos, and mothers’ and fathers’ day stall happen, not only for our students, but raise funds for our school. I certainly appreciate their commitment to our growing school community.
Thank you also to the staff members who assisted at both discos. The students very much enjoy seeing their teachers outside of school hours.
Semester 1 Report Cards
I have had the pleasure of reading each and every report card written for our students. Your child’s teacher has spent a considerable amount of time writing Behaviour and Overall comments, as well as marking and allocating a Level of Achievement (mark) for the learning areas taught and assessed this semester. When the report card arrives in your inbox next Thursday afternoon, please take the time to read over your child’s report card with them. Reflect on the positives and discuss goals for next semester based on the feedback your child’s teacher provide.
While parent-teacher interviews will take place towards the end of Term 3, please ensure you contact your child’s teacher at the beginning of next term if you have any questions about their report card.
This is an important reminder to ensure your email address is up to date and you have subscribed to QParents!
Safe holiday travels
With one week of the school term to go, it is a timely reminder to ensure you, and your family have a safe holiday if you are heading away. If you are taking a road trip, please ensure to take regular breaks. We want all of our families to return safely on Monday 14 July.
Changes to canteen provider
Thom and Ann’s contract and partnership sadly ends at the end of this term. Thom and Ann’s have supported our school since the first day of our foundation year. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Thom and Ann’s, and in particular Andrea, who their continued support and service to our school community.
I am pleased to announce after a lengthy tender process; Cove Catering will be operating our school’s canteen from Monday 14 July. With a change in provider comes a change in menu and platform for placing online orders.
Cove Catering will be using Flexischools for online ordering. In addition to this, over the counter cash and card sales will be available. Please refer to the flyer below on how to create a new account with Flexischools. It is up to individual parents/carers to close and retrieve any remaining funds from existing Munch Monitor accounts.
Cove Catering Service is looking to expand our team in the Canteen.
Casual employment, paid position, a few positions available ranging from 35 - 10 hours per week.
Duties Include
- Serving Students, Teachers and Parents
- Food preparation to a food grade safety standard

Deputy Principals' Message
Deputy Principal Newsletter
As the Term comes to close it's timely to thank all our parents and carers for their support of their child’s learning this Term. We know that we get the best results when we partner with families to best meet the needs of each of our learners. Thank you for working with us, championing us in the community and supporting your child to do their best every day.
Senior Athletics Carnival Highlights
Yesterday and today, our senior students proudly participated in the Senior Athletics Carnival. We are incredibly proud of the persistence, dedication, and enthusiasm they showed throughout the event. Students competed in a range of activities including sprints, shot put, long jump, high jump, and ball games. Team spirit was high, and it was heart-warming to see the encouragement and support from students cheering on their peers from the sidelines. A big thank you to the parents who came along to support their children—it was wonderful to have you there!
Celebration of learning
Parents and carers are invited to attend our Celebration of learning morning on Wednesday 25th June. The morning will commence at 8:45am and run until 9:15. Parents are invited to join in activities within their child's classroom, view their learning folio and see the learning and growth that has occurred over the Semester. This is a special time to share with your child to celebrate their achievements and set goals for the reminder of the year.
Keep the Reading Habit Going These Holidays
As the school term winds down and the holidays begin, it's important to help children stay connected with reading. Regular reading over the break supports literacy development, strengthens vocabulary, and keeps young minds engaged. Whether it's sharing a bedtime story, visiting the local library, or encouraging independent reading, every little bit helps. Making reading a fun and relaxed part of the holiday routine can set children up for a confident start to the new school term.

Access for students with mobility impairment
We have a few mobility impaired students who need clear and safe access to get in and out of school. You can assist by being mindful and ensuring your vehicle and/or tow bar does not overhang the pathway. Please also ensure you do not park in the disabled parking spaces. These small things can really make a difference.

Student Finance
Thank you to those parents and carers who have already made payment for the 2025 SRS Student Resource Scheme and iPad Hire invoices. The due date for payment was 7 February.
We urge families to attend to any outstanding fees. Statements will again be emailed next week. Statements are emailed regardless, if payment is owing (debit) or the account has prepayments (credit e.g. Camp deposits etc).
Payment plans are available for all families. If you would like to set up a payment plan or have any concerns regarding your account, please contact the Admin Office on 07 2899 5111 or email admin@everleighss.eq.edu.au
Seasonal Asthma
With the cooler change of season, we are seeing more students with seasonal asthma at the office. When we are giving students their relievers at school, we are surprised at how many children with a prescribed preventer have not taken them. If your child’s asthma action plan includes the use of a morning preventer, we recommend you help them by setting up a morning routine that ensures this is given.
Important information regarding school attendance
Parent’s responsibilities – it is the parent or carer’s responsibility to ensure the following:
- ensure their child arrives at school on time and attends their educational program every school day
- provide their current contact details to the school to enable effective notification
- contact the school either before or on the day of an absence, or as soon as practicable, in accordance with the school's communication processes and provide an explanation for each absence
- notify the school if their child will be arriving late or leaving early
- ensure their child follows the school’s processes and procedures for late arrival and early departure.
Late arrivals - It is expected that students arrive before class begins at 8:30am. Once the school gates are closed students arriving late should be escorted into school via the office by a parent or carer who must give a reason for the late arrival.
Where late arrivals are persistent and regular, you will be contacted to discuss the situation to determine if additional supports and/or strategies are required to strengthen engagement and improve attendance.
Early departures – It is expected that students remain at school for the length of the school day. Parents are encouraged to ensure their child misses as little school as possible.
Early departures should only be requested for reasons deemed reasonable. Routine appointments such as doctor or dentist should be made for outside school hours where possible.
Early departures should be advised ahead of time to ensure minimal interruption to class learning. Please phone the school office to request an early departure if necessary. (Please do not pre-advise an early departure via the QParents app as this causes a system glitch)
As classroom areas are out-of-bounds during lunch breaks, early departures during breaks that are not advised ahead of time will need to wait until the end of the break when students are permitted to access and collect their school bags.
Absences – school absenteeism and truancy can impact significantly on students' learning and wellbeing. Research shows that in Queensland, higher student attendance is associated, on average, with higher student achievement. Additionally, attending school every day helps children to build social and emotional skills such as communication, teamwork and resilience.
Under the law, you must make sure your child attends school on all school days unless there is a reasonable excuse. Schools must monitor attendance of students and follow up with parents and caregivers any unexplained absences.
It is expected that the school is notified of a student absence before 9am on the day of the absence, where possible. Our preferred method is via the QParents app. Please contact the office if you require assistance to set up the QParents app. Alternatively you may phone the Student Absence Line on (07) 2899 5160, where you may leave a message anytime of the day or night.
Absence for Family reasons – When the student is absent due to family circumstances beyond the influence of the student. Parents should be encouraged to ensure their child misses as little school as possible. Where these absences are persistent and regular, principals should discuss the situation with the parent and/or student to determine if additional supports and/or strategies are required to strengthen engagement and improve attendance.
- Moving house
- Transport issues
- Family member is ill or in hospital
Absence for Holiday - Holidays during the school term are discouraged. If the absence is for more than 10 consecutive days, an application for exemption form should be completed.
Unauthorised absences – When an excuse given for a student absence is deemed as unreasonable by the principal it will be recorded as an unauthorised absence. This includes:
- Leisure activities
- Shopping
- Visiting friends and relatives
- Celebrating birthdays
- Fishing
- Truancy
- Any other reason for absence that the principal does not consider to be reasonable
Where absences are persistent and regular, you will be contacted to discuss the situation to determine if additional supports and/or strategies are required to strengthen engagement and improve attendance.
Spare change of clothes reminder
With the colder weather arriving, students are experiencing more toileting accidents. Please ensure you have a spare change of clothes in your child’s bag just in case. Please include underwear, black shorts/skort/pants and socks.
Change of contact details
Please advise Executive Services if any of your details have changed. For example:
- Address
- Best contact phone number
- Work details
- Emergency contacts other than parents/carers
Please use the QParents app, or you can pop into the office to complete a change of details form, or email admin@everleighss.eq.edu.au to update your details.
Lost property
With the start of the cooler weather, we are beginning to see jackets being worn to school. These are often taken off during playtime and left in the playground. If they are clearly labelled it is easy for us to return them to the correct student. Last year we had dozens of unnamed jackets left over that were eventually donated to our guidance officer, as we had no way of knowing who to return them to. PLEASE ENSURE YOUR JACKETS ARE LABELLED.
Name labels make all the difference in helping us to returned lost items to the correct students. We kindly remind parents to name hats, jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc. We really appreciate your assistance with this. Any item that is labelled gets returned directly to the classroom.
All previously unclaimed and unnamed school jackets have been given to our guidance officer to distribute to families in need. If you believe you have lost an unnamed jacket, please advise as soon as possible.
All unclaimed, unnamed items are disposed of or donated at the end of each term.

Head to Health Kids - Queensland
Head to Health Kids – Queensland (H2HK-Q) services offer a range of specialist supports for children under 12 years of age experiencing developmental, behavioural or emotional issues that may affect their mental health and wellbeing. Support is also provided for their families/carers if required.
Service:
H2HK-Q offer free mental health and wellbeing support for children and support families in the Caboolture-Morayfield area in North Brisbane, and the Yarrabilba-Logan area in the South.
They help families manage their mental health by reducing stress, improving relationships and providing support.
Your child doesn’t need an existing diagnosis to get help from H2HK-Q.
How can H2HK-Q help?
If your child’s mental health or wellbeing is affecting their daily life, and you’re worried about things like their:
- emotional or physical wellbeing
- communication and social skills
- relationships with family, carers and friends
- schooling or education.
Your child may have seen their school guidance officer, a social worker or a community health nurse, but they need more support. This may also be the first time you’ve reached out for advice or help for your child.
H2HK-Q provide short term support for children and families, and work with other community services to make sure you’re supported in the long term. They don't do functional assessment reports for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plans or provide any services funded by NDIS packages.
How to use the H2HK-Q service:
Children, young people, adults, families and carers, health professionals are welcome to contact the Head to Health phone service 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
- Call 1800 595 212
- Share your post code
- The H2HK-Q team will ask you some brief questions to help find the right support for you.
- Referral Form - Self refer OR Health professional refer.

Child Development Program
The CDP offers specialised assessment and early intervention for children from birth to their 12th birthday who may be experiencing developmental delays or challenges in areas such as communication, behaviour, learning, movement, or social skills.
This program brings together a team of experienced health professionals including:
- Developmental paediatricians – understand how children develop and grow up.
- Occupational therapists – understand how children do everyday activities like play and learn.
- Nurses – help the paediatricians support families.
- Physiotherapists – understand how children move.
- Psychologists – understand children’s behaviour, emotions and how they think.
- Speech pathologists – understand how children talk, understand words and eat.
- Social workers – understand how families fit together.
The goal is to work closely with families, educators, and other health providers to create a clear understanding of a child’s needs and to support their development through individualised care plans.
How to Access the Program:
To access the Child Development Program, families need a referral from their GP or paediatrician. Services are free and are offered in various locations across Queensland, including community health centres and hospital-based clinics.
We encourage families to reach out if they have any concerns about their child’s development as early support can make a significant difference.
For more information, you can visit the Queensland Health website to connect with the right services.
