Edition 3 - Week 7
Principal's Message
On Wednesday, our school had its first evacuation practice. Staff and students were extremely responsive, following procedures to ensure everyone arrived at our meeting point quickly and safely. This practice was well advertised and prepared for, being our first attempt. As the year progresses, we will move to practising evacuations with little to notice as a means of assessing how well we respond in the event of an actual need to evacuate buildings. Teachers prepared students in advance of this event and we sounded the alarm during our parade on Tuesday to ensure everyone was prepared. As parents/carers you can discuss the importance of practising evacuations at home and school to ensure we keep ourselves in the event of a fire or other incident requiring an evacuation.
Our next emergency response practice will be a lockdown. This will occur either later this term or early next term. As we did for this week’s evacuation practice, staff and students will be well informed and prepared. Lock down practices are often more confronting for students as they are usually in response to a hostile situation. Again, you can play an important role in assisting your child to understand the importance of practising what to do in the very unlikely event of needing to place our school into a lockdown situation. During a lockdown, the song Hakuna Matta will play. This may be familiar to students if they have seen The Lion King. This song has been chosen as it is a happy tune and means ‘no worries’ - the message we want to send to our staff and students.
Last Wednesday was National Simultaneous Story Time. I had the pleasure of reading this year’s book, Family Tree to 1A, 3/4B and 4A. Other classes chose to read the story together or watched my recorded reading of the story.
Deputy Principals' Message
Students are busy working towards their end of term and semester assessments. To maximise teaching and learning due to the disruptions experienced this semester, Semester One Report Cards will be sent home in week one of Term Three. Parent-Teacher interviews will take place early in the term to discuss student progress. We are excited to welcome parents and carers to classrooms on Wednesday 22 June to celebrate this semester’s learning. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.

Update from Everleigh YMCA
As the weather is getting cooler, please ensure your children have their jackets on and that they are labelled. Please also remember all children still require a hat for outside play.
Vacation Care will be upon us before we know it. As we count down the weeks it gets more and more exciting. We have been working hard to put together a vacation care program built on children’s input and the feedback from families from our last vacation care. This vacation care period will include one excursion and 5 exciting incursions. Our completed program will be out for you to view week 8 and you can commence bookings then. We do have a limit of 60 places per day so when we give the go ahead, please book your places early to save disappointment.
If you are requiring BSC, ASC or Vacation Care you will need to enrol with YMCA first. This is a two step enrolment. Please follow the link below to start your enrolment with YMCA Everleigh. We look forward to you and your family joining us.
