Semester 1 Report Cards
On Thursday 20 June, Semester One Report Cards will be emailed home to parents/carers. To ensure you receive your child’s Report Card, please ensure your email address is up to date.
Continuing Earthworks within the Everleigh Estate
Please be advised that we are receiving regular updates regarding the continued earthworks blasting, as the Everleigh estate continues its expansion. Rest assured that Shadforth ensure the safety of the community when undertaking these works. Should you have any concerns, please contact me.
Year 3 to Year 6 Sports Days
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank Ms Kimberley Beck on a very successful seniors sports carnival. The day was well coordinated and ran very smoothly as a result. Our students should also be congratulated for their behaviour, participation and encouragement of each other.
Unfortunately, the celebration and success of this event was marred by someone in our school community needing to take to social media to publicly defame our school despite the issue being addressed at the school. This sort of behaviour is in breach of our Parent Code of Conduct and unhelpful.
Our staff work incredibly hard to coordinate and run events such as the recent sports day to ensure all students can participate across the 2 days. This is what should be celebrated.
There was also a comment regarding parents/carers not being able to get close enough to some events. The decision was made to cordon off an area for parents/carers to ensure staff were able to manoeuvre students around to the different events promptly and safely. This also controlled any unacceptable behaviour from parents/carers towards our staff, which has occurred in the past at our sporting events, where staff have been verbally abused. Such behaviour will not be tolerated.
It saddens me that as role models for our future generations, our students’ first and most important teachers, behave in a such a way towards school staff who want the best for every one of our students.
I am looking forward to a fun and supportive atmosphere at our Prep to Year 2 Sports Day to be held early next term, where parents/carers celebrate the participation of all students and commitment of our staff to organise these events.
Prep to Year 2 Disco
What a great night our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students had at our P&C coordinated disco last Friday night. Thank you to our small but committed P&C executives and the numerous volunteers who assisted in the lead up to, and on the night. There were plenty of great dance moves from both students, staff and volunteers! We are looking forward to the Year 3 to Year 6 disco this Friday night.
Deputy Principals' Message
Our Everleigh State School culture is built of the foundation of CARE. When every child is enrolled each family learn about our school values of; Commitment, Accountability, Respect and Encouragement. Adults in the school including our staff and parents have a very important role to ensure these values are enacted everyday and modelled for our students. Parents agree to model this when they sign the enrolment agreement form. We have a vibrant student population with students from varying cultural backgrounds and students with different interests, abilities and traits and we celebrate this diversity. It makes us so proud to see the students supporting every child over the finish lines on sports days, or accompanying their injured friend to an alternative play space or being an upstander and supporting another student in the play ground to be kind. We would like our parents to support each other in this same way. To see a smile of understanding from another parent when our children might be struggling can be the one thing that helps another get through a rough day. That smile and support and knowing that their child is part of a community that accept them is one of the small things we want to create amongst our families. We want all families to be able to work together with us to support our students through their primary schooling years so that they have the very best memories to look back on.
Use of iPads
Implementing an iPad Program enables students to access a range of benefits in their learning and help to maintain an effective partnership with parents in the education of our students.
Some of these benefits are:
- High levels of student engagement
- Greater opportunities to individualise learning
- Enhanced communication methods
- Improve digital literacy
- A connected and real-world learning environment
- Improved options to share with parents and the wider community.
- Wide range of apps that provide specific learning opportunities
In order to ensure that iPads are used effectively as a learning tool in the classroom, a range of rules have been created, shared and are regularly discussed in class. These rules are outlined in our Harnessing Technologies at Everleigh State School and in our Ipad Agreement which all students sign.
Students are expected to:
1 – Only use the app or website that you have been directed to use.
2 – Always sit when using the iPad unless given direction by a staff member.
3 – Stop using the iPad when the teacher is talking.
4 – Always hold the iPad with two hands.
5 – Be gentle when tapping the screen.
6 – Only use the iPad during class when supervised by a staff member.
7 – Follow the acceptable rules of network and netiquette as outline in the ICT
Agreement.
8 – Do not drink or eat when working on the iPad.
9 – Ensure iPad is fully charged each day for school.
10 – Messaging apps are not to be used during school.
11 – Follow staff directions at all times
Students are also reminded that images should not be taken without the direction of a staff member and only for the purposes of learning. In addition, any person who is in the image must also give their consent for the photo to be taken.
Students and families are not to use devices for communicating during school. Should parents need to make contact then this should be done through contact Executive Services. Making contact during school may see the Student Code of Conduct implemented to manage this behavioural choice.
Students are also expected to ensure they bring their devices fully charged, every day to ensure they are able to fully access learning in the classroom. For further information regarding set-up of the device, please review the Harnessing Technology booklet which has been shared through SeeSaw. Storing of games on devices also causes some concerns due to the space this takes up on the hard drive of the device and also makes finding and using apps for learning challenging. A preferred set-up has been outlined in the Harnessing Technology booklet.
Celebration of Learning
On Thursday the 20th of June we invite all our families to our Celebration of learning afternoon. The afternoon will commence at 1:50pm and run until 2:30 pm. This will be an open classroom activity where parents are invited to join in activities with their child in their room, view their learning folio and see the learning and growth that has occurred over the Semester. This is a special time to share with your child and celebrate their achievements and set goals for the reminder of the year. If you wish to speak with your child’s teacher, please contact them to make an appointment at another time. This isn’t a time to discuss your child with the teacher. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask your child’s teacher.

Lost property
JACKETS, JACKETS, JACKETS! And HATS, HATS, HATS! We have a number of unnamed school jackets, hats and tracksuit pants at the office! Have you lost yours? Some of these have been here since last winter. Please check your wardrobes to ensure you have yours. We also have a number of generic (non-ESS) jumpers, both black and maroon.
Name labels make all the difference in helping us to returned lost items to the correct students. We kindly remind parents to name hats, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc. We really appreciate your assistance with this.
Any item that is labelled gets returned directly to the classroom. We only hold unnamed Everleigh uniform items at the office. Please let us know if you are missing a non-labelled item.
Q Parents
We remind all parents and carers to set up their Q Parents app. This app is our preferred option and is a one-stop location to check on your account or pay invoices, as well as to report absences. It is quick and easy to use. The app will follow your child to any state school all the way through, including to high school. If you require any assistance to set this up, please contact executive services.
