Principal's Message
Semester One Reporting
State schools are required to offer both informal and formal reporting to parents/carers on their child’s progress. At Everleigh State School, informal reporting occurs through our Parent-Teacher interviews towards the end of Terms 1 and 3. Formal reporting to parents/carers occurs through formal, written Report Cards at the end of semester in Terms 2 and 4. Parents/Carers will be emailed their child’s Semester 1 Report Card on Thursday 22 June. Please ensure your email address is up to date.
All students receive a written Report Card. Each learning area which is assessed across the semester, is reported on using a five-point scale for Achievement:
Prep | Years 1 – 2 | Years 3 - 6 |
Applying | Very High | A |
Making Connections | High | B |
Working With | Sound | C |
Exploring | Developing | D |
Becoming Aware | Support Required | E |
In addition to Achievement, students also receive a ‘rating’ for Effort and Behaviour:
Prep | Years 1 – 2 | Years 3 - 6 |
No effort or behaviour rating. Comment only | Very High | Excellent |
High | Very Good | |
Sound | Satisfactory | |
Developing | Needs Attentions | |
Support Required | Unacceptable |
Parent/Carer Waiting areas
Thank you to the parents/carers who always adhere to our expectations of waiting away from classrooms to limit the disruption to learning.
We have a number of students who use YMCA of an afternoon in Prep and Year 1. YMCA educators collect children directly from their classrooms and assemble them in a group. When parents/carers are congregating close to classroom doors, it makes it difficult for YMCA staff to keep account of children in their care. I again remind parents/carers of our school expectations of waiting away from classrooms until 2.30 pm.
Under 8s Morning
A huge congratulations and thank you to Mrs Harker, all of our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 teachers, teacher aides, Mr Carson and all other staff who assisted with the coordination of yet another successful Under 8s morning. It takes an enormous amount of time and team work to make such events happen. It wonderful to see so many families and children having such a great time. Thank you to all of our special visitors who contributed to a wonderful morning.
Respectful interactions with staff
I would like to remind all of our families of the importance of being respectful when speaking and interacting with our school staff. Unfortunately, we have had an increase in anti-social behaviour towards our staff. Should you have a concern you wish to raise, our staff are more than willing to work with you. However, abusive and disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.
If you wish to raise an issue, our Complaints Management Policy can be found on our website.
Staff illness
At present, our school, along with society in general, is being impacted by the numerous illnesses in circulation. As a result, there are days where we have a large number of relief staff in our school. This week, I spoke to students on Parade about the importance of being Committed, Accountable, Respectful and Encouraging regardless of the teacher in their classroom. I also reassured our students that all Everleigh State School staff are here to support them.
Due to staff illness and the teacher shortage, it may be necessary to provide alternative activities at times to ensure teachers receive their entitlement of Non-Contact Time (NCT). Where we have been unable to source relief teachers, our specialist teachers – Ms Beck, Ms Jenkins, Mrs Chivers, Mrs Hughes and Mrs Yoshi have had to teach classes, resulting in teachers missing out on their NCT, which is used for planning, teaching, marking student work, and sometimes following up with parents/carers.
I ask that you support us by reminding your son/daughter of the importance of being respectful to all adults within our school community.
Fanfare 2024
For the first time, Everleigh State School band participated in a state-wide music festival, with its purpose to showcase musical talent from a range of schools at Park Ridge State High School. Despite our band small in comparison to other participating schools, Everleigh State School achieved a Silver award! Congratulatons to Miss McCollough, Mrs Chivers and our band.
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS)
Wednesday 24 May marked National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS). At 12.00pm, schools across the nation paused to simultaneously read this year’s book, Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. This is a lovely story of friendship and connection. Bowerbird who loves all things blue, is missing something important in his life – a friend. Although Bowerbird loves blue, he finds connection and friendship in a bird green in colour.
I had the pleasure of reading this story to a number of classes in the Hall at 12.00pm last Wednesday and sharing the importance of being accepting of others, regardless of their background as Bowerbird did when finding a friend.
We had our very own blue bowerbird in Miss Kathy, who dressed up for the occasion.

Message From The Head Of Special Education Services, Mrs Rhiannon Kemp
At Everleigh SS, we are committed to providing the best educational experience for every student, including those who require additional support due to disabilities. An important part of this commitment is our participation in the National Consistency Collection of Data (NCCD) on school students with a disability.
What is the NCCD?
The NCCD is an annual data collection process for all Australian schools. It gathers information about students with disabilities who are receiving reasonable adjustments to support their education. This data helps the government and education authorities better understand and allocate resources to meet the needs of students with disabilities across the country.
Who is Included in the NCCD?
It's important to note that a student is included in the NCCD only if they are receiving reasonable adjustments due to the functional impact of their disability. Reasonable adjustments are changes or accommodations made to help students participate fully in their education. These adjustments are tailored to the individual needs of each student and can range from modified teaching materials and specialized equipment to additional support from staff.
Why is the NCCD Important?
The data collected through the NCCD plays a crucial role in ensuring that schools like ours receive the appropriate funding and resources to support students with disabilities. This process helps create a more inclusive educational environment by ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed.
Our Current Process
To ensure the accuracy of our records, I have been meeting with teachers to review and update our current data. These meetings involve discussing each student's progress and the effectiveness of the adjustments in place. Teachers provide valuable insights based on their observations and interactions with students throughout the semester.
How You Can Help
Your support and cooperation are vital. If your child receives adjustments due to a disability, you might be contacted for additional information or clarification. This helps us ensure that we have the most accurate and up-to-date information about your child's needs.
We understand that discussions about disabilities and adjustments can be sensitive. Please rest assured that all information is collected and handled with the utmost respect for privacy and confidentiality.
Our goal at Everleigh SS, is to create an inclusive environment where every student can thrive. The NCCD is a significant step towards achieving this, and your involvement is key to its success. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.
If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Spare change of clothes reminder
Please ensure you have a spare change of clothes in your child’s bag in case of accidents. Please include underwear, black shorts/skort and socks.
Lost property
JACKETS, JACKETS, JACKETS! And HATS, HATS, HATS! We have a number of unnamed school jackets, hats and tracksuit pants at the office! Have you lost yours? Some of these have been here since last winter. Please check your wardrobes to ensure you have yours. We also have a number of generic (non-ESS) jumpers, both black and maroon.
Name labels make all the difference in helping us to returned lost items to the correct students. We kindly remind parents to name hats, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc. We really appreciate your assistance with this.
Any item that is labelled gets returned directly to the classroom. We only hold unnamed Everleigh uniform items at the office. Please let us know if you are missing a non-labelled item.
Q Parents
We remind all parents and carers to set up their Q Parents app. This app is our preferred option and is a one-stop location to check on your account or pay invoices, as well as to report absences. It is quick and easy to use. The app will follow your child to any state school all the way through, including to high school. If you require any assistance to set this up, please contact executive services.
Music Notes with Mrs Chivers
Here we are at the pointy end of the semester with final dance assessments coming up. Last term, we responded to dances we viewed and this term, students from years 1 to 6 will be performing a dance for the class.
All students are being assessed on their confidence, body control and accuracy of moves.
The students in years 1 and 2 are practising the dance they have choreographed with their partners ready to perform for the class.
Students in years 3 and 4 have learnt their dance and will be performing for assessment this week and next week.
Year 5 and 6 students have mostly learnt their dance and will be rehearsing this week and next week, ready to perform in week 9.
On Monday this week, the senior concert band performed in Fanfare at Park Ridge State High School. This is an amazing opportunity to play in front of other schools and receive feedback from an adjudicator. This was the first time Everleigh State School has entered this competition. Bands are scored according to a set of criteria. Our band received a silver award. Well done Students.
CHOIR
Our choir students have been showing commitment by turning up at rehearsals every week. We are planning to perform on Assembly in week 10 this term.
Q: How do you make a bandstand?
A: Take away their chairs.
Keep on singing
Mrs Chivers

Konnichiwa!
OMEDETOU to Lujain (4B) and Summer (4A) for winning the ‘MONEY ENVELOPE’ Japanese design challenge for Year 4 students.
Otoshidama (money envelopes) are given to children as a New Year’s tradition in Japan.
Both Lujain and Summer’s designs reflected an understanding of the culture and beautiful use of the written text.
Well done!
