Edition 40
Principal's Message
Welcome back to Term 2
We ended the last term with a wonderfully orchestrated Prep to Year 2 Easter Concert and a Staff V Student netball game. To say some of our staff are competitive is an understatement!
A huge thank you to Mrs Harker and all of the Prep to Year 2 staff for a well organised and entertaining Easter Concert. The students were lucky enough to have a visit from the Easter Bunny.
ANZAC Day Commemorations
Next week, our school community will pay respect to our service men and women for ANZAC Day. Year 5 and Year 6 students have been invited to attend the annual Brisbane City Council Student ANZAC Day Service at ANZAC Square. Permissions forms and relevant information were sent home to our senior students earlier this week.
On Wednesday, Everleigh Sate School will hold an ANZAC Service. This service will commence at 9.00 am at our ANZAC Garden, which is located near the Resource Centre.
As is now a tradition for Everleigh State School, students are invited to attend the Greenbank RSL march and service on ANZAC Day. Please check SeeSaw for information from Mr Morley regarding the time and location of the march and service.
Uniform Reminder
It is very pleasing to see the majority of our students wearing our full school uniform proudly to school every day. A full school uniform includes the wearing of white socks and plain black shoes. Thank you for also ensuring students are only wearing their sports shirt on Friday or for special sporting events.
As we head into the cooler months, I would like to remind you that it is an expectation students wear our school jacket and/or track pants. In the event your child’s school jacket needs washing, a plain black jumper (pull over or zip) may be worn in the interim. Students are not to wear other coloured jumpers/jackets, including those with sports logos. For safety reasons, hoodie style jumpers or jackets are not to be worn.
Inappropriate use of Social Media apps
There are increasing reports of Everleigh State School students accessing apps for the purposes of communicating inappropriately with others. Platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok and Discord have reportedly been used to send harmful and inappropriate messages to other students.
These three (3) social media apps have a recommended age rating of 12+ years. The large majority of our students are not yet 12 years of age and should therefore not be accessing such apps without parent permission and supervision.
This week, Mr Morley and I had a very direct conversation with our Year 5 and Year 6 students about the inappropriate use of social media. I am seeking your support in ensuring you are monitoring your child’s technology access and use. If you require support in speaking with your child about how to appropriately and safely engage with social media, please visit https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents
Conduct that adversely affects, or is likely to affect other students or the good order and management of the school as a result of students inappropriately engaging on social media apps will be managed in accordance with our Student Code of Conduct. Please refer to page 26 of our Student Code of Conduct for further information.
2025 Enrolments
Enrolments for 2025 open on Monday, 22nd April. Enrolment packs can be collected from Executive Services between the hours of 7.45 am and 3.15 pm.
Deputy Principal's Message
PBL
Our PBL committee is continually reviewing our processes and behaviour data to ensure a safe environment to promote lifelong learning is evident at Everleigh State School. As part of this committee, we would welcome parent insight and perspective. Should any parent wish to be involved in the PBL Committee, please contact Mr Morley.
Gala Day
Students in Years 5/6 will be attending Gala Day on May 10. Students will be involved in either touch football or newcomb. This is an excellent opportunity for students to meet with other schools, compete in a fun activity and represent our school proudly. Students not attending are still expected at school.
Message From The Head Of Special Education Services (HoSES)
Welcome back to school! We hope you had a fantastic break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the new term ahead.
Last term was filled with wonderful moments of celebration and learning. We came together as a school community to celebrate Harmony Day, embracing the rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and backgrounds that make our school so vibrant and diverse. Our Harmony Day festivities were a whole school celebration, where we honored and celebrated the unique contributions of every individual, fostering a sense of unity and belonging.
In addition to our Harmony Day celebrations, we also had the pleasure of commemorating World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). This special day served as an opportunity to further emphasise the value of diversity, not only in culture but also in people. WDSD was an additional celebration, highlighting the importance of embracing individuals with unique abilities and promoting inclusivity within our school community. Through wearing crazy socks, engaging activities and lessons, we emphasised empathy, acceptance, and understanding towards individuals with Down syndrome and other diverse needs.
As we embark on Term 2, we have an exciting opportunity to continue our journey of celebration, learning, and community engagement. We're delighted to announce that Zoe from Carers Queensland will be visiting our school on Tuesday, April 23rd, at 3:30 pm to discuss the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This session promises to provide valuable insights and information for parents, caregivers, and anyone interested in learning more about NDIS. Please remember to sign in at the administration office upon arrival.
Furthermore, we're pleased to share that all spots for NDIS Providers in schools for Term 2 have been filled. This initiative underscores our commitment to working with families to ensure their external, tailored, support therapies continue. If you missed out on securing a spot and would like to be placed on the waiting list, please email us at admin@everleighss.eq.edu.au

Spare change of clothes reminder
Please ensure you have a spare change of clothes in your child’s bag in case of accidents. Please include underwear, black shorts/skort and socks.
Lost property
JACKETS, JACKETS, JACKETS! We have an abundance of unnamed school jackets at the office! Have you lost yours? Some of these have been here since last winter. Please check your wardrobes to ensure you have yours. We also have a number of generic (non-ESS) jumpers, both black and maroon.
Name labels make all the difference in helping us to returned lost items to the correct students. We kindly remind parents to name hats, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc. We really appreciate your assistance with this.
Any item that is labelled gets returned directly to the classroom. We only hold unnamed Everleigh uniform items at the office. Please let us know if you are missing a non-labelled item.
Q Parents
We remind all parents and carers to set up their Q Parents app. This app is our preferred option and is a one-stop location to check on your account or pay invoices, as well as to report absences. It is quick and easy to use. The app will follow your child to any state school all the way through, including to high school. If you require any assistance to set this up, please contact executive services.
