Principal's Message
What a busy start to the 2024 school year we have had! It has been refreshing to have the start of the year not impacted by COVID or weather events.
Cross Country
What a fantastic day we had for our annual cross-country event. A very big thank you to Ms Kimberley Beck for her organisation. The use of Greenbank Giants new AFL field made for a much more exciting cross-country run.
The supportive spirit of our students and spectators made for a very inclusive event. The encouraging clapping and cheering for some of our students who find such an event to be challenging was a very proud moment and a perfect example of how we CARE for one another.
Both Ms Beck and I were very glad to be able to put our feet up at the end of a very busy, but rewarding day.
Every day counts!
Our attendance rate from Monday 4 March until Friday 15 March is 89.5%. This is down from last fortnight.
Our year-to-date attendance is 91.5%.
Our attendance is reducing each fortnight. Please, unless your child is unwell or has an appointment, ensure they attend school all day, every day.
Statistics of attendance for period Monday 4 March until Friday 15 March
Year Level | Attendance Rate | ↑ ↓ from last fortnight | Unexplained Absences | Late arrivals | Early Departures |
Prep | 90.0 | ↓ | 1 | 41 | 22 |
Year 1 | 90.9 | ↓ | 3 | 56 | 38 |
Year 2 | 87.0 | ↓ | 3 | 51 | 42 |
Year 3 | 90.1 | ↓ | 4 | 58 | 14 |
Year 4 | 89.6 | ↓ | 0 | 31 | 21 |
Year 5 | 92.1 | ↑ | 1 | 54 | 19 |
Year 6 | 87.5 | ↑ | 3 | 40 | 21 |
Total | 89.5 | ↓ | 15 | 331 | 119 |
Congratulations to Year 5 and Year 6 families for increasing their school attendance this fortnight.
We have seen a decrease in the number of students arriving to school late. Thank you for your efforts in ensuring students arrive on time to school.
While there is an increase in early departures for this fortnight, a majority of these early departures were students leaving early after their cross-country event. Generally, early departures on Friday afternoons have reduced significantly, thank you.
Celebrating our Diverse School Culture
This week marks Harmony Week, whereas a community we acknowledge and celebrate our diversity. On Thursday, we celebrated Harmony Week with a brief parade, with each class creating a flag to represent one of the many countries and cultures of our community.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our school community for your continued support and wish everyone a very safe Easter break with family and friends. Term 2 commences on Monday 15 April.

Deputy Principals' Message
NAPLAN
Well done to all students who have completed their NAPLAN during the past week. This is a big undertaking for students and for staff and the effort you put into this has been wonderful. We still have a catch-up opportunity for those that have not yet finished but the NAPLAN window officially closes on Monday.

World Downs Syndrome Day- March 21
#EndtheStereotypes
World Down Syndrome Day, 21 March, is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. On this day, the global Down syndrome community speaks up together to create a single global voice advocating for the rights, inclusion and wellbeing of people with Down syndrome. Visit worlddownsyndromeday.org to learn more.
The World Down Syndrome Day website and associated activities are coordinated by Down Syndrome International in collaboration with the National Down Syndrome Society and the Down's Syndrome Association.
These are some of our favourite videos about Down syndrome. People with Down syndrome were involved in the making of all these videos:
- Chromosomes R Us – a short video by actors with Down syndrome about how Down syndrome occurs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0VV3C_ydak
- Just like you - Elyssa, Rachel and Sam share personal stories to help viewers better understand their condition and why they wish to be treated just like you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5M--xOyGUX4
- Down Syndrome Answers -The Canadian Down Syndrome Society (CDSS) found the most-asked questions on Google and asked 10 Canadians with Down syndrome to give their answers. https://cdss.ca/awareness/down-syndrome-answers
- We're all different but we're all the same – An animated video about inclusion. Beware, this has a very catchy tune https://youtu.be/Le1a1PAzN3k?si=-_d3e697SrG9SSj3

Spare change of clothes reminder
Please ensure you have a spare change of clothes in your child’s bag in case of accidents. Please include underwear, black shorts/skort and socks.
Lost property
Name labels make all the difference in helping us to returned lost items to the correct students. We kindly remind parents to name hats, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc. We really appreciate your assistance with this.
Have you lost an Everleigh hat or jacket? We have some unnamed items at the office.
Any item that is labelled gets returned directly to the classroom. We only hold unnamed Everleigh uniform items at the office. Please let us know if you are missing a non-labelled item.
Q Parents
We remind all parents and carers to set up their Q Parents app. This app is our preferred option and is a one-stop location to check on your account or pay invoices, as well as to report absences. It is quick and easy to use. The app will follow your child to any state school all the way through, including to high school. If you require any assistance to set this up, please contact executive services.
LOTE News From Mrs Yoshi
Japanese News for Years 1-4
This term has seen many of our Everleigh students embark on learning a new language. It is positive to see so many students at Everleigh embracing and showing curiosity in a different culture. It is also noteworthy that studying another language helps to grow brain pathways and aid in becoming a more flexible, creative thinker which is of huge significance in our modern society.
This term, our lower and middle school have been building vocabulary around colours, numbers, animals and actions. We play games, sing songs, complete work book and cultural activities and learn about cultural differences and similarities.
Some of our students embarked on a design challenge to create a new ‘otoshidama’ money envelope design for New Year’s celebrations in Japan and the winners of this competition have been published today from grades 2 to 4. Well done to Kayden from Year 2, Aiden and Loki from Year 4 and our Year 3 contestant.
Next term, there will be several Japanese competitions run including an anime drawing competition and a design challenge. We will also see what the Year 5/6 grades have been working on around their mascot designs and introductions.
Have a good break. Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu.
