School Opinion Survey
All families should have received an email invitation to participate in this year's School Opinion Survey.
Thank you to all of those who have already completed the Parent/Caregiver Survey. If you have not had a chance to complete the survey yet, please note that the online surveys will remain open until Friday, 18 August 2023. This is your opportunity to provide feedback about what our school does well and how we can improve.
To have your say, check your email for an invitation from the Department of Education titled School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2023.
Can’t find your invitation? If your family has more than one parent/caregiver, check that they haven’t received the invitation and/or check your junk email folder.
Parent-Teacher Interviews
Parent-Teacher interviews will take place on week 8 on Wednesday 30 August in the school from 2.40 pm until 8.00 pm. Information will be sent out very soon to allow you to book in a time to speak with your child's teacher about his/her progress. I encourage all parents/carers to take the opportunity to meet with teachers as the relationship between home and school is important in ensuring the success of all students. Time slots will be 10 minute intervals. If you feel that more time is needed, please contact your child's teacher to discuss booking an additional time or arranging to meet at alternative time.
Department of Education Strategic Plan 2023 - 2027
Our deparment's vision, 'Equity and Excellence: Realising the potential of every student renews our focus on empowering our teachers and school leaders, investing in digital innovation, school performance, fostering collaboration between schools and community and delivering sustainable investment in schools for the future.' Thsi vision, which aligns beautifully with Everleigh State School's vision of Excellence through Equity because we CARE, is achieved through three (3) focus areas. These shared focus areas are:
Educational achievement
Knowing each student’s learning progress is essential to making sure they are on track for positive educational outcomes. Setting clear expectations for every student and every school supports them to achieve.
Wellbeing and engagement
Being healthy, confident and resilient is a foundation for engaging in learning. With a focus on wellbeing of all staff and students, we create a sense of belonging and a positive environment for teaching and working. Designing and delivering meaningful pathways for every student is key to lifting learning outcomes.
Culture and inclusion
The diversity of our staff, students and school communities is our greatest strength. By valuing culture and creating inclusive teaching and learning environments, we are driving equity and excellence across every state school.
As you would be aware, Everleigh State School had a school review last year to assist us in developing our 4 year Strategic Plan. Our Strategic Plan is aligned to the department's vision and focus areas. Our school's Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) and Explicit Improvement Agenda are developed each year for the next four (4) years from our Strategic Plan. Below is a reminder of our AIP and our Strategic Plan.
Deputy Principals' Message
Schools combined instrumental music camp: A harmonious adventure
Mrs Armstrong had the pleasure of attending the SCIM camp for Year 6 students. Isaac H who plays trombone represented Everleigh State School. The three-day camp for Wind, Brass and Percussion instruments was a well-organised and musically enriching experience.
Activities included specialised lessons, ensemble collaborations and performing in a mass concert band. The students developed their musical talents, built friendships and gained confidence.
The camp concluded on Friday with an afternoon concert where the young musicians showcased their growth and accomplishments. Overall, the camp provided a nurturing and inspiring environment for musical exploration and learning. Congratulations to Isaac and to Miss McCullough, our Instrumental Music teacher, for contributing to the tremendous success of this event.
Every Day Counts!
Attendance at school every day is critical for long-term success. Our school target for attendance is 95 per cent. This is based on our understanding that illness, injury and personal circumstances sometimes arise. An attendance rate of 95 per cent equates to ten (10) missed days, or two weeks, of learning per year.
Cohort | % Year to date | This week |
Prep | 90.94 | 92.47 |
Year 1 | 90.41 | 92.65 |
Year 2 | 89.98 | 88.37 |
Year 3 | 87.15 | 87.35 |
Year 4 | 87.81 | 87.45 |
Year 5 | 87.7 | 86.94 |
Year 6 | 85.16 |
Congratulations to this week’s Attendance Champions – Year 1!
Let’s keep striving for attendance all day every day!
The last two weeks have been jam packed with learning activities for our students. Students will be well into the unit of works for this term and often as the year progresses the content becomes more difficult and requires more persistence and endurance. We can encourage our students by helping them to develop a growth mindset. One way we can do this is to give them a good understanding of the learning pit. The learning pit is a visual tool which helps students relate feeling challenged to being in the learning pit and supports them to embrace this challenge and to reflect on what skills and strategies they need to use to get out of the pit. It is through hard work and persistence when things are difficult that the most learning and mastery of new content can occur. Please speak with your child about your own experiences of being in the pit, the more we normalise the sometimes uncomfortable feelings associated with challenge the easier it is to help kids embrace this and develop confidence and control in making positive choices to improve learning.

Messages from Executive Services
Attendance Data Collection
Attendance data for Semester 1 2023 will be extracted by Central Office on Friday 18th August. It is important that any outstanding unexplained absences are updated. Each Monday we send home letters to families who have unexplained absences. We kindly ask that you advise the reasons for the absence and return these letters as soon as possible.
We remind parents/carers to ensure absences are notified by 9am on the day of the absence, to avoid creating an unexplained absence.
Student Absence Procedure
If your student will be absent, parents/carers have a legal obligation to notify the school, including advising the reason for the absence. We kindly request you let us know by 9am on the day of the absence. We have two preferred methods for advising absence:
- Via the Q-Parents App – please see reception if you require information on this.
- Via our dedicated Student Absence Line – (07) 2899 5160, where you can leave a message any time of the day or night. Please save this number in your phone.
Reminder: You will also need to advise YMCA if your child is booked in and will be absent.
YMCA absences should be advised before 2:15pm via email aev@ymcabrisbane.org or via text or phone call 0459 905 087.
Don’t forget to also cancel your canteen order if you have pre-ordered ahead: (07) 2899 5125
Spare change of clothes reminder
With the colder weather we are seeing more toileting accidents in our junior years. Please ensure you have a spare change of clothes in your child’s bag just in case. Please include underwear, black shorts/skort and socks.
Lost property
Name labels make all the difference in helping us to returned lost items to the correct students. We kindly remind parents to name jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles, containers and also hats. We really appreciate your assistance with this. Please see the attached photos of recent treasures waiting for their owners to claim them.
We also have a table near the front entry gates where we leave other lost property such as lunch boxes, water bottles and non-Everleigh jumpers and tracksuit pants. Those will be donated or binned at the end of each term.
Q Parents
We invite all parents and carers to set up their Q Parents app. This app is our preferred option and is a one-stop location to check on your account or pay invoices, as well as to report absences. It is quick and easy to use. If you require any assistance to set this up, please contact executive services.
