Edition 24
Principal's Message
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff, students, families and wider community for their support in another wonderful school term and semester at Everleigh State School. It is rewarding to work with such a committed school community. I wish everyone a lovely break. For the first time in over 2 years, I will be ‘downing the tools’ to spend much needed quality time with my husband and son, visiting Tasmania.
Semester One Report Cards
This week, our teachers have had time off class to prepare for Term 3 learning. This was an important opportunity for teachers within each year level to intentionally collaborate to be ensure teaching and learning is engaging, explicit and evaluative for all students. I would like to thank teachers for their dedication during these sessions. The time was used very wisely!
Next week, you will receive your child’s Semester One Report Card via email. It is expected that reports will be emailed out on Wednesday afternoon. We will provide an update when emails are sent. Please ensure your email address is up to date.
Term 3 Staffing
We welcome Mrs Teneale Harker, our permanent Prep – Year 2 Deputy Principal back from maternity leave. Mr Morley will be taking some long service leave for the first 5 weeks and will be replaced by Mrs Armstrong. When Mr Morley returns, Mrs Armstrong will remain with us as a 3rd Deputy Principal until the end of this year.
School Support Staff Recognition week
This week we celebrated the important work our cleaners, schools’ officer, administration officers and business manager. On Thursday morning, our cleaning team and schools’ officer, Mr Carson, were treated with a BBQ breaky and certificate of appreciation. These special people work hard behind the scenes ensuring our school grounds are safe and well maintained.
We thanked our Administration Officers, Miss Marina and Miss Carol and Business Manager, Mrs Gardener on Friday morning. Our school would not operate without the hard work and dedication from these ladies!
Deputy Principals' Message
Senior Sports Carnival
Students in Years 3-6 participated in their Senior Sports Carnival on Wednesday June 8th and Thursday June 9th. The encouraging and competitive environment was wonderful to see with all houses putting on a strong showing athletically and with their house spirit.
Congratulations to all Age Champions across the school and in particular to Chagun for becoming House Champion.
Thank you to Miss Beck for organising and running this event.
Students in the junior school will be participating in sports next Friday.
Every Day Counts!
Attendance at school every day is critical for long-term success. Our school target for attendance is 95 per cent. This is based on our understanding that illness, injury and personal circumstances sometimes arise. An attendance rate of 95 per cent equates to ten (10) missed days of learning per year. Our attendance rates since last newsletter are:
Prep 89.8%
Year 1 88.6%
Year 2 86.8%
Year 3 83.8%
Year 4 84.2%
Years 5 & 6 80.6%
Congratulations to this edition’s Attendance Champions – Prep!

Messages from Executive Services
Student Absence Procedure
With the weather becoming cooler in the mornings, we are seeing an increase of illness at school. While we value attendance, please be reminded to keep unwell children home, so as to allow them time to recover as well as to stop the spread.
If your student will be absent, parents/carers have a legal obligation to notify the school, including advising the reason for the absence. We kindly request you let us know by 9am on the day of the absence. We have two preferred methods for advising absence:
- Via the Q-Parents App – please see reception if you require information on this.
- Via our dedicated Student Absence Line – (07) 2899 5160, where you can leave a message any time of the day or night. Please save this number in your phone.
Reminder: You will also need to advise YMCA if your child is booked in and will be absent.
YMCA absences should be advised before 2:15pm via email aev@ymcabrisbane.org or via text or phone call 0459 905 087.
Don’t forget to also cancel your canteen order if you have pre-ordered ahead: (07) 2899 5125
2022 Yearbooks
If you ordered and have not yet collected your 2022 yearbook, they are still available for collection at Executive Services.
STUDENT RESOURCE SCHEME PAYMENTS
Please ensure your Student Resource Scheme payments (SRS) are paid or up to date if you are on a payment plan. This includes payments for iPads. As at the Monday of Term 3 students who are not paid or up to date with payments will no longer have access to certain item resources such as app’s like Mathletics, Reading Eggs & Math Seeds etc until payment is made ,as these are included in the SRS.
If you are having difficulties in paying please contact Robyn Gardener by calling the school 07 28995111 or by email rgard26@eq.edu.au
We would like to thank all of our families who have either paid in full or are up to date with payments.
Lost Property
Name labels make all the difference in helping us to returned lost items to the correct students. We kindly remind parents to name jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles, containers and also hats. We really appreciate your assistance with this. Please see the attached photos of recent treasures waiting for their owners to claim them.
Q Parents
We invite all parents and carers to set up their Q Parents app. This app is our preferred option and is a one-stop location to check on your account or pay invoices, as well as to report absences. It is quick and easy to use. If you require any assistance to set this up, please contact executive services.
Stop, Drop and Go Procedures
We now have name tags for you to attach to your car sun visor which will allow our staff to see your child’s surname and have them ready for collection.
Kangaroo – families with students in prep to year 2 use the Kangaroo stop, drop and go zone at the front of the school.
Platypus – families with students in years 3 to 6 only may use the Platypus stop, drop and go zone at the rear of the school, on Anderson Drive.
These name tags are available to collect from the office.
