Principal's Message
ANZAC Day March
For a consecutive year, we had a small group of students and staff represent Everleigh State School at the Greenbank RSL ANZAC Day March and service. Also, for a consecutive year, the weather was dreary. With a number of students from our younger years, I was very proud of their efforts to sit in the cool conditions. I would like to thank Mr Morley for organising our involvement in what will be an annual event for Everleigh State School. Thank you to three (3) of our Teacher Aides, Ms Manttan, Ms Utz and Ms Gallagher who also joined us. Thank you and congratulations to the following students for your commitment to Everleigh State School at this commemorative event:
Tiarna, Holly, Wyatt, Riley, Harlow, Fletcher, Ishreet, Sienna, Maddison, Harrison, Benjamin, Patrick, Lexi, Maverick, Addison, Isaac, Jean-Eva
Winter Uniforms
With the arrival of the cooler weather, we are starting to see students wearing jumpers and jackets. A reminder that students are expected to wear the Everleigh State School winter jacket. In the event your child does not yet have a school jacket, only plain black or dark grey jumpers are to be worn. For safety reasons, hoodies ARE NOT TO BE WORN. It is an expectation that all students wear the Everleigh State School uniform as endorsed by our P&C.
Road Safety
We continue to have parents/carers disregarding the safety of their children. This week alone, there have been two (2) near misses. One in the main Kangaroo carpark with a younger student being let out of the car in the middle of road and another younger student nearly hit by a car riding home. Thankfully in both instances drivers were on alert to children being around. I cannot stress enough the importance of ensuring we are role modelling appropriate road safety rules to our children. I have been in contact with council regarding these issues. The safety of all of our students is the responsibility of everyone.

Deputy Principals' Message
Every Day Counts!
Attendance at school every day is critical for long-term success. Our school target for attendance is 95 per cent. This is based on our understanding that illness, injury and personal circumstances sometimes arise. An attendance rate of 95 per cent equates to ten (10) missed days of learning per year. Our attendance rates since last newsletter are:
Prep 89.9%
Year 1 88.2%
Year 2 91.5%
Year 3 89.3%
Year 4 87.5%
Years 5 & 6 85.7%
Congratulations to this edition’s Attendance Champions – Year 2!
Now that our long weekends and short weeks are behind us, it is vital that we focus on getting to school every day, on time and ready to learn.
You’re invited to:
Everleigh State School’s Under 8’s Day!
Wednesday 17th May
8:45am – 10:45am
Junior school learning areas
On Wednesday 17th May, our students in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 will be celebrating Under 8’s Day.
Under 8s was initiated by Early Childhood Australia, Queensland. They wanted to create a day that was dedicated to highlighting the importance of play for learning and development. Children’s brains develop rapidly in the first eight years of life and experiences during this time lay the foundation for future learning and development.
Children are born investigators and Under 8s Day is a time to nurture that natural curiosity and playfulness. The students will be participating in a range of visual, creative and movement based interactive activities which will be set up around our learning spaces. The activities will run from 8:45am through until 10:45am.
We would love for you to attend this special event to continue building strong partnerships between our school and the local community. This year’s theme is Play – you, me and our communities and we would love for you to join us to celebrate this special occasion designed to embrace the joy of early childhood. Younger siblings and children younger than Prep age are welcome to attend with a parent or guardian and the invitation will be extended to early childhood education and care centres in our local community.
If you have a special talent or activity that you would like to share with our students, please get in touch via email at aarms55@eq.edu.au. Any support is greatly appreciated.
We look forward to a fun morning of activities with our local community!
Messages from Executive Services
Student Absence:
With the weather becoming cooler in the mornings, we are seeing an increase of illness at school. While we value attendance, please be reminded to keep unwell children home, so as to allow them time to recover as well as to stop the spread.
If your student will be absent, parents/carers have a legal obligation to notify the school, including advising the reason for the absence. We kindly request you let us know by 9am on the day of the absence. We have two preferred methods for advising absence:
- Via the Q-Parents App – please see reception if you require information on this.
- Via our dedicated Student Absence Line – (07) 2899 5160, where you can leave a message any time of the day or night. Please save this number in your phone.
Reminder: You will also need to advise YMCA if your child is booked in and will be absent.
YMCA absences should be advised before 2:15pm via email aev@ymcabrisbane.org or via text or phone call 0459 905 087.
Don’t forget to also cancel your canteen order if you have pre-ordered ahead: (07) 2899 5125
2022 Yearbooks:
If you ordered and have not yet collected your 2022 yearbook, they are still available for collection at Executive Services.
Q Parents
We invite all parents and carers to set up their Q Parents app. This app is our preferred option and is a one-stop location to check on your account or pay invoices, as well as to report absences. It is super quick and easy to use. If you require any assistance to set this up, please contact us.
Lost property
Name labels make all the difference in helping us to returned lost items to the correct students. We kindly remind parents to name lunch boxes, water bottles, containers and also hats. We really appreciate your assistance with this. Please see the attached photos of recent treasures waiting for their owners to claim them.
Stop, Drop and Go Zones
We now have name tags for you to attach to your car sun visor which will allow our staff to see your child’s surname and have them ready for collection.
Kangaroo – families with students in Prep to Year 2 use the Kangaroo Stop, Drop and Go zone at the front of the school.
Platypus – families with students in Years 3 to 6 only may use the Platypus Stop, Drop and Go zone at the rear of the school, on Anderson Drive.
These name tags are available to collect from the office.
Everleigh State School P&C - Mothers' Day Stall
The Everleigh State School P&C Association's Mother's Day Stall will be held on Wednesday 10th of May in the hall. Each class will visit the stall to shop during the school day. See timetable below.
Gifts are priced at $5, $10 or $20. Please send your child with their cash in a snap lock bag with their name and class written on it.
This is one of the P&C's annual fundraisers and is a lot of fun for the kids, as it allows them to choose something independently for their mum, grandmother or other important female in their life. They may have the opportunity to purchase an additional gift later in the day if they have leftover money. We can't run this event without your support. Much help is needed to prepare gifts, stall set up, sales and stall pack down. Please sign up for one (or two!) of the slots by following this link - volunteersignup.org/8PA4M
The ESS P&C Association would appreciate any gift donations for the Mother's Day Stall. Please leave any NEW item/s in the box located in the office foyer.
Funds raised will go towards much needed library books and readers for the students of Everleigh State School. Thanks for your support!
Student Council News
Containers for Change
The student council have made a program for our recycled cans bottles and poppers to make some change and help the environment. Recently we have decided to put in some bins for your recyclable to help the environment and raise funds. So far, $70 has been raised with the Containers for Change. Parents and community members can help by scanning the code in the image when you are recycling your bottles, cans and poppers at Containers for Change centres. Together, we can help clean up our world and raise funds for the student council as well.
