Edition 19
Principal's Message
Thank you
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of our school community for a wonderful first term. We had a great first day of our second school year not having to endure any restrictions. This is the first full Term 1 our students have experienced since 2019 and it has been evident in the last couple of weeks with both tired staff and students.
Our end of term Celebration Parade in week 10 will be split into two (2) sessions. This is due to the large number of CARE Credit Awards being awarded. While not ideal, it is a great problem to have as the number of students receiving awards demonstrates how Committed, Accountable, Respectful and Encouraging our students are.
Harmony Day Celebration
For those of you who were able to join us on Tuesday, you were privileged to watch a special Harmony Day video created by Ms Jenkins, our STEAM teacher and Mrs Chivers, our Music Teacher. In addition to the wonderful voices of our student choir, Miss King (4A teacher) and Mrs Armstrong (Prep – Year 2 Deputy Principal) participated in our school’s rendition of This is me. Such a beautiful acknowledgement and tribute to the many cultures that not only make up Everleigh State School, but also our wider community.
For confidentiality purposes, we will share the video via See Saw. This video should not be shared outside of this platform.
2023 Everleigh State School P&C
Thank you to those of you who were able to join us for take 2 of our AGM. I am pleased to share that we formed an executive. Congratulations to:
President: Adam Welsh
Vice President: Kate Thomas
Secretary: Natalie Collins
Treasurer: Russell Watt
I extend my sincere thanks on behalf of our school community for the outgoing executive who were tremendous in their fundraising efforts and commitment in our first year.
I look forward to working with our new P&C for 2023. The first general meeting will be held on Monday 26 March to set future meeting dates and fundraising opportunities. All parents/carers are encouraged and welcome to attend. The meeting will be held at 6.00 pm in the Resource Centre. Please park in Platypus zone or street parking on Anderson Drive.
Use of carparks and pick up/drop off zones
We unfortunately continue to have parents/carers not using the main (Kangaroo) carpark area appropriately. This term, I have received a number of emails from parents expressing their concern for the safety of their child when dropping off or picking up. I remind everyone that the outside lane of the carpark is for drop off/pick up only and IS NOT to be used for parents/carers to park and walk children into the school.
We employ our staff to support students in the classroom, therefore supervision of our carparks before school cannot occur. It is an expectation that all members of our school community to work together to ensure the safety of students by adhering to the parking signage indicating 2-minute waiting zones. It is sad that we have members of our community who are not able to follow the rules. I will be contact with Jimboomba Police about visiting our school during peak periods to ensure the safety of our students. I encourage all parents/carers and visitors to our school to be considerate of others and use our carpark and associated drop off areas safely and respectfully. If you witness any individuals not adhering to these expectations, please contact the school office with relevant details.
Deputy Principals' Message
Every Day Counts!
Attendance at school every day is critical for long-term success. Our school target for attendance is 95 per cent. This is based on our understanding that illness, injury and personal circumstances sometimes arise. An attendance rate of 95 per cent equates to ten (10) missed days of learning per year. Our current cohort attendance rates are well below our target and for the past fortnight are:
Prep 89.6%
Year 1 87.9%
Year 2 89.4%
Year 3 92.5%
Year 4 86.4%
Years 5 & 6 83.6%
Congratulations to this edition’s Attendance Champions - Year 3 again!
iPad and ICT Agreements
ICT Agreements are required every 12 months for students in all classes. This agreement outlines the departmental policies and procedures that are in place to keep students safe online and whilst using school networks and devices. IPad agreements for students in Year 2 Year 6 have been developed to specifically cater for the safe use of iPads and to reinforce their purpose as a learning tool. These must be returned as soon as possible. Without these returned, student access to school networks and devices will no longer be possible.
Classroom teachers are following up with parents where forms have not yet been returned.
Celebration Parade - CARE Credit Awards
On Tuesday we will be recognising our students in Prep to Year 2 at 08:40am. Parents are invited along to celebrate the success of our students as they receive their CARE Credit Certificates. Students in Year 3 to Year 6 will be recognised at 09:40am.
ANZAC Day
ANZAC Day will be recognised at Everleigh State School on Monday April 24th at 09.00am. Parents and the community are invited to attend. The ceremony will be held outside the Resource Centre at our ANZAC Garden. Please arrive by 8.50 am.
Students are invited to participate in the ANZAC Day march on April 25th at the Greenbank RSL. More information will be shared shortly on this.
Prep Easter Bonnet Parade
On Friday 31st March, our Prep classes will participate in our Easter Hat Parade. Parents and carers are most welcome to attend. Students from local Early Childhood Education and Care providers have also been invited to attend. Students will be making their hats in class. The event will be held in the school hall from 11:30am.

Cloncurry Prize - Junior Poetry Competition
Inspired by the iconic Dame Mary Gilmore, the Junior Cloncurry Prize Poetry Competition is now accepting entries from across the state.
This year’s theme, appropriately, is Outback Heroes, with all styles of poetry accepted.
Cloncurry Shire Council Mayor Greg Campbell said the annual Poetry Prize shone the light on the Outback and it’s stunning natural beauty, it’s larger-than-life characters and their incredible stories.
“There is no shortage of heroes in the Outback. They may not wear capes – they’re probably in boots that have covered more miles than there are stars in our sky, hats that could tell their own cracking yarns, and look like they’ve just come off a six-month cattle drove - but that doesn’t diminish their incredible stories.”
Entries for the competition are now open and will close on 1 May 2023. The winner will be announced at a ceremony held in Cloncurry on 23 June 2023.
For information about the competition and to enter, visit our website www.cloncurry.qld.gov.au/cloncurryprize.

Lost Property
Name labels make all the difference in helping us to returned lost items to the correct students. We kindly remind parents to name lunch boxes, water bottles, containers and also hats. We really appreciate your assistance with this. Please see the attached photos of recent treasures waiting for their owners to claim them.
