Edition 14
Principal's Message
I cannot believe we have 5 school days left of our first year! In January, the end of the year felt like a lifetime away as I was filled with a range of emotions for our first year. Excitement, anxiety, fear, hope, to name a few. So many exciting events have occurred this year which would not have been the success they were without the support of our committed staff and community members. Thank you to each and every one of you who has made the first year of Everleigh State School such a wonderfully memorable year! I look forward to an even better year in 2023. I wish all of our staff, students and families a safe and restful break. The 2023 school year resumes on Monday 23 January.
Staffing for 2023
We commenced 2022 with 202 students from Prep to Year 6. We finish 2022 with 256 students and expect to commence 2023 with approximately 395 students. Such growth results in more staff! In 2023, we welcome Mrs Melissa Benstead, Mrs Sarah Bailey, Mrs Anne-Marie McKlaren, Mrs Lettica Walsh, Miss Jessica Beazley, Mrs Fay Murrell, Mrs Lauren King.
Unfortunately, our Health and Physical Education (HPE) Teacher, Mr David Johnson will not be with us next year. Mr Johnson has received a permanent transfer to work at Daisy Hill State School 2 days a week. While Mr Johnson will remain a permanent teacher at Everleigh State School for 3 days a week, he will be relieving at Mansfield State School 3 days a week next year. We wish Mr Johnson all the best for 2023. Ms Kim Beck, who has taught Prep this year, is bravely taking on Mr Johnson’s full time HPE position for 2023.
We will be sadly farewelling Ms Celeste Fishburn at the end of this year. Ms Celeste has been with me on this journey since May last year, guiding and supporting us to our successful first day in February. She has been instrumental in ensuring all of our major events have been successful. Ms Celeste is the talent behind our school documents and iconic artwork. While Ms Celeste will disagree profusely, our school would not be the success that it is with her dedication to our school. Ms Celeste, on behalf of our school community, thank you for everything you have done to make our first year so special.
Inaugural Showcase Evening
Wednesday 23 November is a day to remember! Not only did it mark our Official Opening, it was also our very first Show Case evening! Congratulations to Mrs Amanda Chivers, Ms Elicia Jenkins and Miss Kelsey McCullough on such a wonderful evening of entertainment. Our band’s first public performance was fantastic! I can’t wait to see them grow in confidence next year. Our choir sang with such enthusiasm and it was lovely to see so many of our students and their families join us for this special event.
Our P&C was overwhelmed by the number of people keen for a sausage sizzle, raising $615 towards our 2023 Year 5 and Year 6 Canberra Trip. In addition to this our Student Council Festive Hampers, organised by Mr Morley, raised approximately $900! Thank you to everyone who contributed to and supported this event, which will be an annual celebration of our students.
School Review
We have received a one page snapshot (below) from our recent school review. This snapshot along with the Executive Summary will be available for view on our website by Monday 5 December.
The recommendations for our school review will support our school to continue improving to ensure the best outcomes for our staff, students and community. The Executive Leadership team will be working hard over the course of the last week and in January to develop a Four-Year Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan to develop actions and targets to drive our continued improvement. Both plans will be shared early in 2023.

Deputy Principals' Message
Year 6 Graduation
On Tuesday 6 December, students in Year 6 will be celebrated for their completion of primary school at a whole school graduation ceremony. Congratulations to all of our Year 6 students who have transitioned to a new school, set a standard for future students to follow and prepare to move on into high school. Thank you for building your legacy here.
The ceremony will begin at 9.00 am in the hall.
Year 6 students will also be heading to Wet ‘N’ Wild on Thursday to celebrate the end of their primary schooling.
Celebration of Learning
On Wednesday, all students across the school will be involved in a Celebration of Learning throughout the day. Parents are invited into classrooms between 11.00 and 11:30 am with the End of Year Parade to follow in the hall. Students will enjoy their class parties afterwards. Teachers will communicate details of class parties with parents through Seesaw. Please note class parties are for students only.
Sydney Canberra Trip Update
Thank you to all families that have made their deposit for this trip. We have now booked flights for the trip. Students will be travelling to Sydney on Monday 9 October 2023 and returning on Friday 13 October. No further payments will be taken until next year as finance has now closed for end of year. Our student council has been raising funds to assist with the Sydney Canberra trip with $921 raised last week at the End of Year Showcase through Holiday Hampers. Student Council Representatives are selling tickets each morning for hampers to be drawn next week at the End of Year Parade.
Shuffle Up Day
Students will ‘shuffle up’ to their 2023 classes for an hour next Thursday. This is an opportunity for students to become familiar with their new classroom, their new teacher and their new classmates. As this will occur as part of regular school routines, parents of students currently enrolled are not required to attend. Only Parents of 2023 Prep students and students enrolling in 2023 who are not currently enrolled will be required to remain on site while their child visits their class.
Report Cards
Report cards will be emailed to families on Wednesday afternoon. If you have recently changed your email address, please contact the office to update our records. Please check your junk folder if you have not received the report card by midday on Thursday 8 December. If it cannot be located, please contact the office to request a copy to be sent to you. As school staff have their four weeks annual leave over the summer vacation, requests emailed after Friday 9 December 2022 may not be actioned until January 2023.
Messages from Executive Services
A final reminder to finalise any iPad or SRS payments for 2023. We also ask that 2023 SRS forms indicating your preferred method of payment (full or part) is returned by Friday 9 December. This will ensure we can provide your child with all of their necessary resources for the commencement of the 2023 school year. Thank you to those parents/carers who have already paid all or some of their 2023 SRS fees.
A reminder to contact Executive Services to discuss payment plans or CentrePay.
End of year lost property
Please check your hats and jackets, in case your child has accidentally taken home someone else’s. We have a number of families who are still looking for their name-labelled items which have yet to be located.
We also have a number of unnamed school jackets in lost property at the moment. If you are missing your child’s, please pop in to see Miss Marina in case we have your size.
Name labels make all the difference in helping us to returned lost items to the correct students. We really appreciate your assistance with this.
Please see the attached photos of other treasures waiting for their owners to claim them.
All unclaimed unnamed items will be either discarded or donated at the end of the term.
