Edition 10
Principal's Message
Welcome back to Term 4! I cannot believe that we are already in October and have less than 50 school days left of our Foundation Year.
CARE VALUE EXPECTATIONS
As we head into the last term of the school year, I would like to remind our community of the importance of maintaining our CARE values as role models for our students. Please ensure your actions reflect those that you expect from our staff and your children. Our staff and students are also reminded that we must maintain a high standard of behaviour as we head towards the end of the school year.
2 MINUTE PARKING ZONES
I would again like to remind parents/carers of the correct use of the 2-minute zones at both our Kangaroo and Platypus pick up and drop off areas. Cars are not to be parked and left from this zone. If you need to walk into the school to collect your child/ren, please use the main Kangaroo car park or off-street parking.
RECENT CLOSE CALL
This week, a student using the crossing was nearly hit by a car. Thankfully the driver was able to stop in time to avoid a nasty incident. If your child rides their bike or scooter to school, please remind them of the need to get off and walk safely across the road. I have sent photos to our local Councillor to raise visibility issues as a result of the hedging when approaching the crossing from the Anderson Drive end of Ivory Parkway.
OUR SCHOOL REVIEW — AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE YOUR SAY
As mentioned in a previous edition, our school is scheduled for a review from 8 November to 10 November.
The Department of Education regularly reviews the teaching and learning practices of Queensland state schools.
The reviews are conducted by the department’s Education Improvement Branch. The reviews do not rate or compare schools, but provide us with independent feedback so we can continue to improve learning outcomes for students.
All schools have a review at least once every four years. Key findings from the review will be made available to parents and the community on our school website.
The review team would like to hear from the school community and I encourage anyone who is interested to have their say. Your feedback is important and will help us continue to deliver a great education for students.
Feedback can be provided to the review team by phone or in person. All feedback remains confidential. Please contact the school office if you are interested in speaking to a reviewer. Alternatively, you can register your interest by emailing eibmb@qed.qld.gov.au.
More information about the review process is available from the department’s website at www.schoolreviews.education.qld.gov.au.
CELEBRATING STUDENT SUCCESS
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Tara-Belle Relf from 5A who will be competing in both the Queensland and Australian Championships for synchronised ice skating. This is a wonderful achievement and behalf of the Everleigh State School community, we wish Tara-Belle success in her upcoming competition.
We would love to be able to share the successes of all Everleigh State School students. Please share your child’s success stories outside of school with me via email at principal@everleighss.eq.edu.au for inclusion in our fortnightly newsletter
Deputy Principals' Message
What a fantastic start to the new school term! The weather is warmer, the sun is shining and we have a definite spring in our step after a relaxing holiday. We extend a very warm welcome to our new students and their families. A reminder that our school assembly is held on Tuesday mornings at 8:45am and parents/carers are most welcome to attend.
October is Safe Work month nationally and the theme this year is Think safe. Work safe. Be safe. Health and safety is everyone's business and, while our staff work to ensure that the school is safe and free from hazards, it is timely to remind students of the things they can do to think safe, work safe and be safe at school.
- Walk on concrete
- Ensure shoe laces are tied up to reduce trip hazard
- Washing hands after using the bathroom and before eating.
- Use play equipment safely, e.g. coming down the slide feet first.
- Using furniture as intended, e.g. use a wobble stool if movement is required rather than rocking on a chair
- Keeping equipment in designated areas, e.g. balls on oval
- Putting bags into lockers to reduce trip hazard
- Putting rubbish in bins and wiping up any spilled liquid to reduce slip hazard
We are fortunate to have such a beautiful school to work, learn and play in and we can all do our part to ensure that it remains a safe place for everyone.
Our annual swimming program commences this term with students in Years 5 and 6 starting Thursday 13 octonber and Year 1 and Year 3 in week 9.

iPAD AND SRS PAYMENTS
A reminder for those parents/carers who are yet to pay this year's iPad hire fees and/or SRS payments to please do so as soon as possible
LOST PROPERTY
Please remember to check your hats and jackets, in case your child has accidentally picked up someone else’s. We have a number of families who are currently looking for name labelled items which have yet to be located.
We also have a number of unnamed school jackets still remaining in lost property from last Term. If you are missing your child’s jacket, please pop in to see Miss Marina in case we have your size.
Please see the attached photo of an earring which was found last Term still waiting for the owner to claim it.
2023 Enrolments
We continue to receive 2023 enrolments on a daily basis. If your child is due to start Prep in 2023, please ensure you enrol your son/daughter as soon as possible. Our PrepStart Program will be commencing on Thursday 20 October and run for 3 consecutive weeks. Prep Interviews will also be conducted during this time.
If your child is joining us in 2023 in a different year level, we would also appreciate enrolment forms to be completed as soon as possible to allow us plan for our 2023 classes.
