Edition 8
Principal's Message
Schools are busy places! There are many operational activities that occur every day, but at the heart of our core business is teaching and learning, ensuring the success of every student. At Everleigh State School, this is achieved through our vision of Excellence through Equity because we CARE. In order to ensure we have what is referred to as a sharp and narrow focus, schools develop an Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) (see image below). As a new school, we have SO MANY areas to focus on, as we essentially start with nothing.
In established schools, the AIP is developed from the school’s Four-Year Strategic Plan, which is developed after a Full School Review. As Everleigh State School is yet to complete its first year, we are yet to develop a Strategic Plan as we have not completed a Full School Review.
Our first School Review will take place in week 5 of Term 4 from 8 November to 10 November. During a School Review, members of the Education Improvement Branch (EIB) visit our school. A Parent/Carer information sheet is attached below. The role of the EIB is to ascertain how well our school is performing against the National School Improvement Tool, which contains Nine Domains. Our Executive Leadership Team will present to the EIB team information and evidence of what we do at Everleigh State School to address each of the domains. All staff, some students and parents/carers are ‘interviewed’ to gauge how effective we are as a school in enacting each of the domains from the perspectives of our wider school community.

SCHOOL PHOTOS
Monday 29th is school photo day. Our prep classes are having their photo taken first thing before enjoying the My Little Farm Friends incursion. Please ensure that you are at school on time on Monday morning so as not to miss your class photo!
BOOK WEEK
This week students have had the most wonderful time exploring quality literature in the annual Book Week celebrations. The culmination of our learning will occur in our Book Week Parade next Tuesday 30th August at 8:45am. Parents and Carers are most welcome to attend and, of course, dress up if you wish! The theme for Book Week this year is Dreaming with Eyes Open. Please be mindful of the privacy of others when taking photos of your child. If you capture images of your child with staff or other students present, we ask that you cherish these memories but please do not post these images to social media.
If your child has loose props associated with their costume, we encourage you to take these home after the parade. Class teachers will keep items safe until the end of the day so that items are not taken to the playground and lost or damaged.
2023 PREP ENROLMENTS
It was wonderful to see so many new faces at our Prep Information Session last night. We are currently accepting enrolments for students due to begin prep in 2023. Students due to begin Prep in 2023 were born from 1st July 2017 through to 30th June 2018.
We will hold three Prep Start sessions for parents and children on 20th October, 27th October and 3rd November. While we share information with adults about what to expect at the start of Prep, the children will be getting familiar with the school setting and participating in early Prep experiences in classrooms. Enrolment interviews will be conducted on these days also. Information about how to book in for these sessions can be obtained by contacting Executive Services.
Please collect an enrolment pack if you have not already done so. We look forward to meeting our new prep children and their families soon.

Carpark Courtesy
Parents/Carers are reminded about their behaviour towards others in our main car park. While we are all busy and have places to go, there is no need for inappropriate or rude gestures to be directed at other parents/carers in your pursuit to leave quickly. We expect our students to be Committed, Accountable, Respectful, Encouraging members of our school community. The same is expected of our parents/carers, who are our students' first teachers and role models. Please think about how your actions impact those around you. Please be considerate and patient of other drivers and pedestrians around you.

STUDENT ABSENCES
Did you know we have a dedicated Student Absence Line? For all student absences we kindly ask you to call (07) 2899 5160, where you can leave a message any time of the day or night.
LOST PROPERTY
We are asking ALL parents and carers to please check your children’s school shirts. We are specifically looking for a student’s shirt that went missing on the Colour Run day, and it has her name labelled on it. If you have a shirt belonging to someone else, please bring it in to Executive Services where we will trade you for the shirt that was left in its place at the event.
While you are checking labels, please also check your hats and jackets, in case your child has accidentally picked up someone else’s. We have a number of families who are currently looking for NAME LABELLED items which have yet to be located.
We also have a number of UNNAMED school jackets at lost property at the moment. If you are missing your child’s, please pop in to see Miss Marina in case we have your size.
Please see the attached photos of other treasures waiting for their owners to claim them.
STEAM News
Over the past term, we have had some exciting days in STEM. Some of our Juniors and Seniors participated in STEM challenge days at Browns Plains SS showing off their skills.
Last week Everleigh also enjoyed our first National Science Week. Street Science visited our school, putting on an amazing stage show and every class shared a Science Investigation with the school. We all were able to go and see each other’s hard work and enjoy some interactive activities.
Meanwhile during our usual STEAM lessons, we’ve been enjoying many learning activities. Our Preppies are learning all about Fairy Tales, our Year 1’s have been virtually visiting places around Australia and our Year 2’s are learning about algorithms through the topic of Space.
Years 3 and 4 have been making some awesome guessing games on Keynote and Years 5 and 6 are busy learning how to code. Here’s a sneak peak at Subhadra’s and Archer’s projects!
